Seattle Rep’s Playwriting Project began over six years ago at Roosevelt High School with drama teacher Elizabeth Orme and her Drama 3-4 class. “We wanted a program that would focus on the playwright,” says Andrea Allen, Director of Education, “that unique and courageous talent who not only comes up with the ideas for the plays, but also dares to see actors bring their words to life. After I work with a small group of playwrights for about five weeks, my colleagues come in and direct the plays with student actors. That’s when the playwrights really come alive – as they realize the power of putting words in other people’s mouths.”
